Dear Patron of the Arts,
A dream should never end. How many times in life are we given the opportunity to support and advance a dream that has been over eighty years in the making? Together, through our financial support and volunteer efforts for the Cape Cod Center for the Arts, you and I can enrich the arts and improve our community life in ways both invaluable and inspiring. We can be part of continuing the dream.
In 1926, when Playhouse founder Raymond Moore purchased land on the historic Old King’s Highway, his vision for the Dennis acreage was more expansive than simply establishing America’s greatest professional summer theatre – the Cape Playhouse. He wanted to create an entire center for the arts complete with a professional summer theater, a cinema that featured the work of the world’s best filmmakers, studio and exhibit space for local artists, lush gardens, and nature paths for peaceful contemplation. He wanted a vital, vibrant center which would allow visitors to discover the magic of the arts.
The Cape Cod Center for the Arts, Inc. is the expression of Raymond Moore’s dream. Chartered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)3 corporation, it is one of southern New England’s most exciting nonprofit organizations supporting arts and culture. It is a fresh and energetic organization working at the location established by Raymond Moore to achieve his original plan for a nationally recognized arts center on Cape Cod. The centrally located campus includes a professional theater – the Cape Playhouse, a single screen arts movie cinema – the Cape Cinema, a fine arts museum – the Cape Cod Museum of Art, and a wonderful restaurant – the Center Stage Café.
The CCCArts owns the Cape Cinema and Cape Playhouse buildings along with other ancillary buildings devoted to the arts. The cinema and playhouse are two of the jewels of Cape Cod. Both institutions have delighted audiences for decades. The Cape Playhouse continues to present Broadway caliber professional theater to Cape Cod. This year, the Cape Cinema was able to expand its offerings to include the wonderful live broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera.
The CCCArts is doing wonderful work. Each year, young adults are introduced to the intricacies of theater work through the Cape Playhouse Technical Theater Arts Internship Program. These students are allowed to work backstage at the Cape Playhouse in many different departments: Props, Scenery, Sound, Lighting, Carpentry and Painting. This stipend-paid professional job training helps ready them for careers in backstage theatrical work.
Each season more than 7,000 children and their parents, teachers, and camp counselors experienced the joy of live theatre with wonderful summertime shows. These entertaining performances introduce young audiences to fairy tales, classic literature, and the many live performance arts. These events serve to foster a love of live theater in children who today are more accustomed to getting their entertainment from a screen than in person. In addition, teaching guides are provided, adding depth to each Children’s Theatre performance.
Our Art TIX Program provides other community and charitable groups with over 150 theater tickets each year to enable folks to attend plays who would not otherwise be able to do so. The CCCArts sponsors the Actor Talk Back on the stage of the Cape Playhouse where actors and other theater professionals engage with the audience in educational and entertaining discussions on various aspects of today’s theater. We sponsor the Dennis Village Art Walk, an assemblage of the many artists of all types along Rte. 6A. We host dance recitals and musical performances as part of our mission to bring music and theater to the community. In addition, the CCCArts produces an arts television series called The Cape Cod Center for the Arts Presents.
It’s all as Raymond Moore dreamed: an arts center bringing professional music, theater, film and the arts to the community on a beautiful campus on Cape Cod, a place where the community can come to enjoy and engage in the creative experience.
But dreams need people and their support to keep them alive. Please join us by sending your contribution toward the grand mission of the Cape Cod Center for the Arts, Inc. With your help we can continue to turn a beautiful dream into vibrant reality.
Sincerely,
James R. Wilson, President
